Cams are those elements which are used in machineries to transfer motion in different planes and different purposes through follower. There are different types of cams, namely plate cams, drum cams, conjugate cams ets.
Plate cams : Plate cam is used to transfer the motion to the follower. Cam is kept rotating and it has ascending or descending curves on its periphery or face side which decide the dwell, raise and fall of the device attached to follower. Certain desired work is done by the plate cam.
Drum cam : This type cam is generally used for intermittent motion. In machines, wherever we require to halt the machine for certain work, we provide such cams. In intermittent motion the halt is regulated through the drives like Ferguson drive.
Conjugate cams : This type of cam is made with two integrally made cams with two followers. Cams pair is rotated and followers kept touching the cams pair. Spring back action is not required in conjugate cams as in case of plate cams. Design and manufacturing is quite difficult of conjugate cams, however it gives positive drive and advantageous in many machines.
We at Cams , do designing of above cams, particularly conjugate cams. Curve for cams is very much important in cam design which should not be overlooked by engineers while designing the cams.
