Timer Pulleys

Timer pulleys are used with timer belts in transmission system. Unlike gears mesh with each other, timer pulleys don’t mesh with each other. Timer belt, which is flexible in nature, is used to connect two timer pulleys. Timer belt is having humps at equal linear distance. The linear pitch between humps is same as circular pitch in the timer pulleys.

The main advantage of using timer pulleys is that it gives positive drive. Timer belt advances certain distance with respect to timer pulleys without slippage. In ordinary v-groove pulley and v-belt, there is possibility of slippage, but in timer pulley and timer belt slippage is total avoided. Both sides of timer pulleys are enclosed with thin flanges to eliminate the possibility of belt slips from the side.
