Planetary gears are used in planetary gear systems or planetary gear boxes. Planetary systems give more torque in small space. Planetary gear system include 3 main parts, Sun gear, Planetary gears and Ring gear.
Sun gear : It is located at the center. It is stationary or rotating depends upon the requirement.
Planetary gears : These gears are placed above sun gear. Fixed with a pin in a common plate planetary gears are given in numbers as per design of the system.
Ring gear : This is outermost gear in planetary system. Teeth are cut inside of a cylindrical bore. Gear shaper is used to cut inside teeth.
In a planetary system any gear out of Sun gear, Planetary gears and Ring gear can be fixed and rotate depends upon the design requirement. Output gear ratio depends upon the number of teeth in each gear. Any or all gears in the system can be made of plastic or hard metal.
Depending upon the requirement it can be single stage or Multiple stage. Special knowledge is required to design the planetary gear system as the gear ratio and number of teeth in each gear are depend upon the requirement.
